Feelings Work

Oudated Thoughtware about Feelings

Modern Culture teaches you that it is not okay to feel. Or that some feelings are ‘good’ or ‘positive’, and others are ‘bad’ or ‘negative’. This way when you feel one of the ‘negative’ feelings you think there is something wrong with you, and when you feel the positive feelings, only then you can evaluate yourself as ‘feeling well’.

The result? You block your feelings and live a numb life. Blocked Feelings leaves you in your head, and with a growing number of physical and psychological dysfunctions.

Feeling is not a design error

To Feel is your birthright because you have a body. You are designed to feel all of your feelings in all levels of intensity, without any harm to yourself or others. In fact you have feelings all the time about everything. whether you or the culture accepts feelings or not.

There are four Feelings: Anger, Sadness, Fear, and Joy. Every Feeling experience falls into one of these four categories. Each feeling is a particular rocket fuel for your life in very practical ways: for your relationships, for your profession, for your healing, for your calling. You feel because you care.

From a culture of numbness to a culture of sentience

You have an inbuilt psycho-emotional buffer inside you called Numbness Bar. You Numbness Bar lives at a high level of intensity so that you can go through life without your heart breaking, feeling discomfort, insecurity, or awkwardness, or experiencing any conflict. You keep the Numbness Bar high by doing any kind of activity that prevents you from feeling any of your feelings, from consuming substances that alter your brain chemistry, to sex, to working, meditating, scrolling, or even socializing.

Modern culture is designed with high levels of sophistication to prevent you from feeling, because feeling your feelings gives you clarity about what you want, and the energy to create it.

Feelings work is about learning to feel consciously whatever it is you are feeling in the present moment, especially the lower intensity feelings, and applying the energy and clarity of your Feelings to creating what you want.

Phase 1 of Feelings Work: Learning to Feel

Learning to consciously feel your feelings starts with experientially telling apart each of the 4 Feelings, as completely distinct and separate sensations in your body. For this you will need to practice lowering your numbness bar all the way to zero and to start feeling.

Then you start putting words to your feelings so you jack-in your mouth directly to your heart without passing by your mind first. Putting words to feelings is not about everybody being free to scream or yell at any time of the day or night. It is so you can get the clear information of your feelings directly: “I feel glad you stopped just now”. “I feel fear that they did not understand my question”. I feel sad because I missed the appointment”. “I feel angry because I don’t understand this proposal”.

Practicing to inner navigate to your unmixed feelings with other people who are learning is doing Heart Gym.

Feelings vs Emotions

There is a revolutionary distinction between feelings and emotions. Without this distinction, any feelings initiation will be confusing and mostly ineffective. Emotions are not feelings and feelings are not emotions, even if they feel similar in our bodies. Feelings arise in the present and provide information and energy to use immediately. After using the feelings consciously, they disappear completely. Emotions are incomplete feelings from the past or from someone else, that feel like they come from the present because they are still locked in your body unexpressed.

Feelings are for handling things in the present. Emotions are for healing things from the past.

Phase 2 of Feelings Work: Applying the Feelings Consciously

Feelings work is not catharsis. Catharsis works to release energy. But doing catharsis with Conscious Feelings Work is like taking all the fuel out of your car because you do not know how to use the fuel. Your feelings are your life energy that carry important messages for you. Phase 2 of Feelings Work is about consciously applying the clarity and the energy of your feelings to create what you want and emotions to heal what is in the way of creating what you want. Make that boundary. Ask for what you want. Create a proposal. Forge a new path.

Regular Spaces for Feelings Work

Rage Club

  • The purpose of Rage Club is to change your relationship to Anger so you can consciously and productively use its energy and information as an adult in your daily life, without being possessed or overwhelmed by it.

    In modern culture, we are conditioned to believe that it is not okay to be angry because, “Anger is one of the negative feelings,” and “anger is dangerous, loud, embarrassing, uncivilized”. When you learn to own your anger and use it responsibly, you get clarity and can act, protect yourself and avoid creating victim-centered-stories.

    Rage Club is an extremely safe learning environment allowing you to reconnect to the archetypal power and intelligence of your anger.

  • The use of conscious adult anger starts when the anger becomes the tool to:

    • say, “No!” or “Stop!”

    • say “Yes!” (by the way, you can only say yes, if you can say an authentic no, otherwise your yes is a lie).

    • change things, move things, stop things, start things, invent things.

    • get rid of things.

    • make boundaries.

    • answer questions from a resource other than knowing,

    • create clarity, eliminate confusion.

    • commit, keep promises.

    • take action.

    • say what you want, or say what you don’t want

    • take a stand for something or for someone.

    • maintain integrity.

    • implement powerful intentions.

    • take steps and move forward.

    In other words, to do the next amazing thing in your life!

  • Rage Clubs can happen online and offline, in spaces held by Rage Club Spaceholders.

Fear Club

  • Working with Fear can be intimidating because so few of us have encounter our own personal Fear for the treasure that it is. We do not know how it goes to be consciously afraid. Yet our Fear is what started our process of evolution.

    Fear Club is different from Rage Club. Its territory centers on unpredictability, invention and research.

    For Fear Club to work it cannot be known how Fear Club goes. At the end of the Fear Club, the fear explorers are different beings, closer through their journey, enriched by having found the door to an incredible rocket fuel for magic.

    Fear Club is not about healing your fear, make it go away, or trying to calm it down. Fear Club is about developing the inner energetic resilience to experience the distinction between emotional fear and pure feeling of fear

  • With this distinction of Conscious Fear (instead of Unconscious Fear) operating in real time, you access your Conscious Fear:

    • To be alert and awake;

    • To walk in the unknown or a new situation;

    • To be present with all of you with what is;

    • To create something out if nothing;

    • To be aware of what needs to be handled;

    • To pay attention to many things at the same time;

    • To notice if anyone is missing or if something is missing;

  • Fear Clubs can happen online and offline, in spaces held by Fear Club Spaceholders.

    Fear Club Intros are usually online or offline introductions to the work of Fear Club that last 2-3 hours.

Sadness Club

  • Maybe you were taught to keep it all together. Maybe you were taught to be strong, and thus immoveable. Maybe you learned to mix your sadness with your anger, your fear, even your joy, and while this kept you stuck, at least you did not shed a tear.

    You may have learned to do these things in order to survive, but you were born with the potential to crack and melt down in pure, unimpeded grief. You were made to allow rivers of love to pass through you. Your ears and bodies were made to listen exquisitely, so that when the most important communications arrived from Women, the Muse, Gaia, carrying seeds of longing and seeds of possibility, they had soil to land in. You were built with the capacity to bring the deepest stirrings of your own Heart to move out into the world through your hands and your voice.

    All of these potentialities require you to be able to feel your sadness, to let it burst you open and break you down, washing away the postures, pretense, apathy, deadness, and aloofness picked up from a life steeped in Patriarchy.

    In a Sadness Club for Men, we focus on feeling and being in the real discovery about how to use the energy and information from sadness to heal and to deliver the gifts of the village-weaving, communicating, poet-healer-listener to the feet of the world.

  • You can use your Conscious Sadness:

    • To be connected and feel your heart;

    • To be in reality;

    • To let go;

    • To be present with what is;

    • To create something out of your longing;

    • To be sensitive of what needs to be handled and spoken;

    • To stay tenderly connected with everything while being focused one thing;

    • To care about your Gaia, your world, your surroundings, your familiy, your space, ...

    • To navigate out of your comfort zone;

    • To notice if you are vulnerable;

    • To notice if you are getting closer with each other;

    • To notice if anyone is incomplete;

    • To notice if something incomplete;

    • To scan for where the flow wants to take you;

    • To listen to the water, to the rivers, to the animals, the trees and to the room;

    • To increase your sensitivity;

    • To create more Aliveness;

    • To hold space;

    • To discover new ways, new moves, new possibilities, new parts of you and new parts of others;

    • To be an archetypal Lover and create real heart-touching worlds;

    • To create genuine Intimacy and Love;

    • To continuously invent your relating with others;

    • To invent your life;

    • To discover your Lineage as a Sadness Club Spaceholder.

    In other words, to discover the Lover, the Mother, the Father, the Caretaker in you.

    Sadness signals you when you are with or without the intimacy that is held by Life around you..it brings you right back into the present moment of stillness and yet movement.

Heart Gym

  • The Heart Gym is a research and practice space to connect with the Emotional Body, come to Experiential Reality, and practice Basic Inner Emotional Navigation Skills, while honing the ability to hold space and create intimacy.

  • Connecting with the Emotional Body requires to consciously feel, which means to feel and distinguish between the Four Feelings - Anger, Sadness, Fear, and Joy - on purpose. Feelings serve your Being by delivering you information to use to take action in your life for what you care about.

    The reality is that talking about feelings is often a mental exercise to numb and avoid feeling. This is called Verbal Reality, where most people spend their lives out of touch with what is really going on. What is real is to feel what you are actually feeling and let that feeling, which is inside of your Heart, speak.

  • Heart Gym usually happens for 30min online, but they can also happen offline.

    In an online space the main spaceholder shares the prompt for practice with the group at the beginning of the session, and then creates breakout rooms of two to three people for 20 minutes.

    In the breakout room, one person will start the practice, and the other person(s) will Hold Space for them, collectively bringing each other deeper into Inner Navigation and exploratory research of the given prompt.

    You are continuously encouraged to go deeper into letting your Heart speak, and be on each other's team to do so. When it has been 10 minutes for the first person to speak, you are notified to bring it to a close, thank your partner, and switch roles.

    After the 20 minutes are up, the collective group returns to the main room to share discoveries, Feelings, and Aliveness.

What about Joy and Joy Clubs?

Joy Clubs seem to be a little more rare, and they do exist. And, because modern culture is so adamant about Joy being the positive or ‘good’ feeling, most people usually need to go through work in feeling, accepting, and enjoying the sensations and clarity that anger, fear, and sadness bring as neutral intelligent resources, instead as being perceived as negative or challenging feelings.

In Possibility Management there are plenty of spaces for exploring the Conscious application of the energy of Joy. This work is especially important to distinguish between unconscious, survival, and inauthentic Joy from authentic live-giving adult Joy.
